SEARCH
Searched word
Enter any expression into the "searched word" box. This expression will be searched for rhyme pairs in the database. The search ignores case; it is based on the exact wording and a strict distinguishing of characters with diacritics. Thus, for instance, rhymes with the word "třpyt" will be found when entering "třpyt","Třpyt" or "TŘPYT", but not when entering "trpyt" or "třpy".
The end of a line
The search can be specified and restricted to a particular end of a line: masculine verse (m), feminine verse (z), acatalectic verse (a), undetermined (n). One verse line may be assigned to several categories at the same time. For instance the line "Podzimní sluníčko" (Neruda) is marked as "m" (J3m) and "a" (D2a), as it complies with both the iambic and dactylic pattern (see section Multimetrical lines and multimetrical poems in Ibrahim – Plecháč 2011, download
here).
Author
The search can be restricted to an author’s/authors’ work. The filter ignores case; it is based on a strict distinguishing of diacritics and identity of the entered string with the beginning of an author’s name (the format of the name in the database is "surname, name/names", e.g. "Erben, Karel Jaromír"). For instance when entering the query "mach" the filter will include Mach, Machar and Macháček, but not Mácha. The symbol "|" serves as a logical operator (OR), i.e. when entering the string "auř|bor" the filter will include Auředníček, Borecký a Bort.
From / to
The box from/to serves to delimit the time span in which the search will be performed, e.g. from 1850 to 1870. When searching for a concrete year it is necessary to fill in both boxes, e.g. for the year 1820: from 1820 to 1820.
QUERY RESULTS
Query results are displayed in four boxes:

(1) Filters and the number of occurrences
The upper box displays the searched word, the selected time span, the selected ends of a line and the authors that comply with the filter conditions (if they have been used). The second line displays the number of occurrences (i.e. all occurrences of rhymes found with a particular word) and the number of different rhymes (i.e. the number of different words which are found in the rhymes).
(2) Rhyme distribution chart
The pie chart displays the frequency of occurrences of individual rhymes with the searched word. The left-click may be used to select a sector and thus display the data in the boxes 2 and 3. (When the page is loaded it is always the rhyme with the largest number of occurrences that is selected). The combinations Shift + left-click of a mouse, or Ctrl + left-click of a mouse enable to select more sectors at the same time (Attention: the Opera browser uses Ctrl + left click to enlarge an object).
The buttons "Chart | Table" enable to switch between the graphical display and a simple list (in the case of a large number of rhymes the graphical display may be confusing). The selection from the list can be made in the same way as the selection from the chart.
(3) Rhyme distribution chart (time axis)
The chart shows the number of occurrences of the selected rhyme (rhymes) for each year of the given period. In addition, it shows the number of occurrences of all rhymes with the searched word (i.e. the entire sector of a pie chart distributed by the time axis).
(4) Table
The table illustrates all occurrences of the selected rhyme (selected rhymes):
[Rhyme] a selected rhyme word
[Line 1] a line containing the searched word
[Line 2] rhyming line
[Author] the author of the poem
[Poem] the name of the poem
[Collection] the name of the collection (at the same time, it serves as a link to the full text of the collection in the Czech electronic library)
[Year] the year of publication of the collection
[End of a line] the end of a line of the rhyming lines
The lines of the table can be alphabetically ordered by any column by clicking on its heading.
Coverage
Clicking the button "coverage [+]" below the pie chart enables to display charts illustrating the coverage and data volume. The chart "Data volume" shows the number of occurrences of all rhymes (i.e. all occurrences in the database) for each year (when specifying the filter "author" it shows the number of occurrences complying with the given conditions). The chart "Coverage" indicates the percentage of rhymes with the searched word within all occurrences in each year. (Thus, it is a ratio of values of the TOTAL data series from the chart 2 to the values from the chart "Data volume").
